If Toyota had done that to the Previa they would have sold a million more of them.

I'd do it if I weren't at work. They have campers of these - you need one:

I have a hard time liking cars that could be outrun by horses. Where is the progress in that?

Made the subframe removable, or used a 948cc engine?
Astros/Safaris have a subframe that pops pretty easily, but in defiance of all logic, the radiator is mounted to the body. Makes skid swaps a lot more complicated.

The quick removal subframe is relevant to my interests.

Leave it to GM.

Tip the body back and slide the drivetrain out the front of the car.

It's less likely to get you killed than an Astro, because it'll tip over before it reaches fatal speeds. That, or it'll just never get there, because it has 1/5 the horsepower.

Less chance of being bitten when loaded down with 3/4 ton, though, and keeps stuff out of the rain. Maybe. Until the roof starts leaking.

Bet it's be pretty easy to put a VW transaxle and a 1600dp in it.

And I guess you don't have to clean up poop either so I suppose it is progress. Just barely but progress nevertheless

Probably. Or, if you like death, a Toronado drivetrain.

I DO like death. How did you know?
disclaimer: I only like death if that's the route to it.

This is a 10/12 cwt van. Am I right in thinking that Americans don't know what cwt were?

Most Americans don't. I only know due to excessive Brit vehicle exposure, and even then, I'm not fluid in translation to and fro.

I went looking for Atlases and Commers for sale for the giggles, and didn't turn up much. Apparently one would need to watch local UK classifieds to get one. Here's a lowered Commer, though.
They seem to go for 2000-5000 pounds, aka up to about 8.5 large.

Are you familiar with Tempo Matadors?

It would make a great delivery van.
